F.Hinds Joins CRJP

Ethical trading is now important to us all. We like to know where our purchases come from, in what conditions they are produced, that the workers get a fair wage and that the processes in which they are produced are as non-polluting as possible. If you are purchasing a jewellery piece to be loved and worn for a lifetime those issues are right at the top of the checklist.

Jewellers F. Hinds has for many years opposed the mining of ‘conflict’ diamonds and has supported the ‘Golden Rules’ of gold production, thereby making public the company’s concerns about human rights, labour and environmental conditions under which gold and diamonds are produced. Joining the Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices (CRJP) is the next step towards an integrated approach for not only F. Hinds but also links up every step along the path that leads to your diamond ring or gold necklace.

The CRJP aims to promote responsible ethical, social, human rights and environmental business practices across every step of the diamond and gold jewellery supply chain, no matter how large or small the business, wherever these precious and much admired commodities are found. Established in May 2005, the organisation is in its infancy but is unique in bringing together mining companies; those involved in diamond cutting, polishing and trading; gold refining and trading; jewellery designers and manufacturers plus a large group of designer and high street jewellery retailers.

CRJP CEO Michael Rae said, “Bringing together such a diverse group is a challenge, but already the Council has produced a Code of Practices for its members. The work of the Council is now focused on completing its certification system, supported by third party auditing. The CRJP is honoured that F. Hinds has joined us in this important effort.

Director Andrew Hinds said, “F. Hinds is delighted to become a member and looks forward to becoming fully involved in the work of the Council”.
