Converting A Ring To Pendant

Posted on: 29/12/2015

The brief:

To take an existing 'head' of a ruby dress ring and convert it into a pendant.

The process:

This was a fairly straight forward job from a goldsmith's perspective, and something that is often achieved with minimal cost and work.

Firstly the three ruby clusters are cut away from the shank of the original ring. There is then a bit of tidying up beneath the setting before attaching the pendant loop. A clean and polish brought the stones back to life with a quick dip in the rhodium plate to bring out the lustre of the white gold. The customer chose to string the pendant on their own chain.

We think this was an inspired design on the behalf of the customer: taking a ring that was otherwise unworn and turning it into a piece of jewellery that would be - very creative!
