The brief:To design and manufacture a ring with a number of precious gemstones which resembles a rainbow.
The process:The customer came to us with a particular idea in mind, which was to wear a piece of jewellery in the style of a rainbow. We suggested a half eternity ring where different coloured stones could be placed in a line.
The customer chose princess cut (square stones) and for them to be channel set into the band. We sourced stones of the same size in suitable rainbow colours and the customer approved them in store: red garnet, orange fire opal, yellow citrine, green tourmaline, light blue topaz, dark blue sapphire and a purple amethyst.
As the customer only wore yellow gold this was a certain, and to keep costs down they selected 9ct. The 9ct gold ring mount and loose stones were sent off to our specialist stone setter. We made sure we carefully detailed exactly which order the stones needed to be set in, and then the ring was sent off to the Assay Office to be hallmarked. All in all a very pretty and colourful design!
