Star Sign Gold Onyx Ring

The customer approached us with the idea of creating a ring, personalised with his and his partner’s names, significant dates, and star signs. He chose this stunning custom design in 9ct gold, set with a faceted onyx. A beautifully unique, meaningful piece!
The process:
A customer visited his local F.Hinds store with a collection of old gold items he hoped to transform into a single, meaningful piece of jewellery. Inspired by the bold design of an American college ring, he shared his vision with a member of our in-store team. Together, they explored ideas and captured every detail he hoped to include in the bespoke design.
This information was passed on to our expert Bespoke Design team, who began evaluating the best approach. Within a few days, they discovered that due to pitting - a common issue when reusing old metal - we wouldn’t be able to achieve the high-quality finish the customer deserved. Knowing he wouldn’t be satisfied with a compromised result, we suggested an alternative: using our Gold for Cash service to exchange his old gold for F.Hinds vouchers, which he could then use towards creating the piece from entirely new materials.
The customer was happy with this solution, and with his vision still at the heart of the process, we began developing a CAD drawing to bring the ring to life on screen. After a few careful tweaks guided by his feedback, the design was finalised and moved into production.
Just four weeks later, the gentleman returned to collect his bespoke ring - a beautifully crafted item that honoured his story. He left the store proudly wearing a one-of-a-kind piece his family will cherish for generations to come.
