Choosing Diamond Jewellery

  • Diamond Jewellery

Choosing diamond jewellery is always an exciting occasion but one that, without some knowledge of diamonds, can be a little overwhelming. You probably already know that diamonds are the world's most precious gemstone; the hardest natural substance and the ultimate token of love and affection. However you may not know that their rare beauty has captivated us for over 3000 years, or that each diamond is totally unique, with its own characteristics and personality. These individual properties determine a diamond's allure and value.

To evaluate a diamond's value, jewellers use what has become known as the 4 C's - cut, colour, clarity and carat (diamond weight). By using the 4 C's it is possible to determine your diamond's characteristics and since these do not alter, you are assured your diamond will stay as special as the day you chose it. For more information about the 4 C's, please click here. The excitement experienced in choosing diamond jewellery will never fade, quite simply because - "a diamond is forever".

The occasion
There is no better way to celebrate a special anniversary or momentous occasion than with diamond jewellery. Various types of rings are traditionally associated with the birth of a baby e.g. an eternity ring - read more here, the passing of an important exam or of course, the proposal of marriage. Choosing an engagement ring is a very important decision and now more and more couples are choosing to purchase the ring together. Whatever the occasion, diamonds say it all! The budget
Remember: each diamond is unique so whatever your budget, you are investing in something that will be yours for a lifetime. Diamond jewellery can be passed down through generations and purchased to remember your loved ones by. If you want to stick to a tight budget but are not seeing anything suitable online, we would be happy to suggest some alternatives that you may not have spotted . Alternatively please pop into your local F.Hinds branch as they often stock heavily reduced sale lines that are no longer online.

The look
A beautiful diamond solitaire is universally recognised as the ‘classic diamond' engagement ring, diamond necklace or solitaire stud earrings. However diamond cluster rings, earrings and necklaces, plus rings with stone set shoulders and diamonds paired with other precious gemstones such as rubies, sapphires or emeralds can be equally striking. Coloured diamonds are becoming more and more popular, and here at F.Hinds we can proudly present our exclusive collection of pink diamonds from the One in a Million range. View the collection here.

The style
First of all you need to choose the colour of gold. Popular colours like yellow and white gold are available in abundance, and we have seen a rise in coloured gold such as rose gold. Mixing white, yellow and rose gold allows the wearer to mix and match styles and colours to suit every outfit. Click to view our collections of rose gold and multi coloured gold jewellery.

The design detail
Take time to consider the many different types of settings, clasps, mounts and patterns that will present your diamond jewellery with the maximum effect. There are so many beautiful designs available today that whether you prefer the traditional or unusual, there is something for you.
