Alternative wedding ideas

Posted on: 14/07/2022

If a traditional big white wedding isn't your thing, there are plenty of alternative ways to celebrate your special day. From where you get married to what you wear, it's possible to make your nuptials tolly unique to you and your partner.

The venue

If you're not religious and don't fancy a church wedding or you're tired of barn conversations, there are lots of cool and quirky locations to choose from across the UK. From ferry terminals and breweries to woodland settings and beachside destinations, you can find the perfect match for the two of you.

You'll need to check if your chosen venue is licensed. If not, you'll need to have a separate ceremony at an approved licensed venue before you have your wedding day the way you want it.

The theme

This is where you can make this day totally 'you'. Ditch the floral centrepieces and matching seat covers for a circus theme complete with trapeze artists or go full gothic with black velvet decor. Think carefully about what you both love and let this be reflected throughout your wedding day.

The dress

White might be a classic choice, but there are dresses of call colours that work beautifully for your big day. Maybe you'd love a pastel-toned gown or a delicate grey toulle? Or you might decide to ditch the dress completely and wear a jumpsuit.

Team your dress with jewellery that completements your unique spin on the traditional. Maybe a diamond and ruby cross would be perfect fit or perhaps you'd love a statement ring.

The food

Typical dining options at a wedding are either a three-course sit-down meal or a running buffet. But if you'd prefer, you could hire some street food vans or serve up egg and chips. There are no rules when it comes to what you eat, so eat your favourite things and invite your guests to join you.

The day

Traditional weddings seem to follow a pattern and can be relatively formal. While this works for some couples, others might prefer a more relaxed affair. You could have the wedding ceremony and dinner times set in place and then leave your guests to do wha they want. For instance, you might decide to set up some games, such as tug of war and ping pong, to make the day fun.

After reading this post you should now have a multitude of alternative ideas to consider for your dream wedding. All you need to do now is remember to plan the day in advance, from making sure there's enough food to buying the perfect jewellery.
