If you're considering choosing an elopement ceremony then you're in the right place! Continue reading to find out more about elopement ceremonies and how you can make yours a success.
What is an elopement ceremony?
Simply speaking, an elopement ceremony incolves two people getting married during a small ceremony over a big event. Normally, elopements have 20 or fewer guests.
Why do couples elope?
Whether you're introverts at heart or simply fancy getting married on a whim, elopements are ideal for couples that want to go without the hassle of organising a large wedding.
Elopement etiquette - the do's
- Do: Check the law - if you're travelling for your elopement, it's a clever idea to ensure that you can legally get married in your chosen destination. If it looks tricky, you might want to get formally married before you travel.
- Do: Plan the cereomy - just because you're not having a wedding with hundreds of guests, it doesnt mean that you don't need to plan! Try to consider everything from your flowers to your vowes, dress and jewellery
- Do: Throw a post-elopement party - as friends and family will have missed your big day, why not throw a party when you're back? It could be nice to plan an elopement party a year after you've got married as a combined anniversary and wedding celebration. If you're doing this, just be sure to buy an anniversary gift for your spouse!
Elopement etiquette - the don'ts
- Don't: Forget to tell people - if you're eloping, don't just brush it under the rug! Send out marriage announcements to let people know you've just got married. You can even send out pictures from your beautiful day as part of the announcement.
- Don't: Forget to budget - even though elopements can save you money, it's important to budget responsibly to ensure you don't end up spending the same amount of money you would on a larger wedding.
- Dont: Forget to hire a photographer and videographer - Just because you're eloping, that doesn't mean you can lose the photographer. Your day is just as important as any other wedding, so organise a photographer to document your day.
