Understanding different types of silver
• Sterling silver: Pure silver is too soft to be used for jewellery, so sterling silver tends to be used instead. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver; the other 7.5% is made up of other metals, such as copper or zinc, to increase durability. Our silver jewellery that weighs over 7.78g is hallmarked to guarantee its quality. Silver earrings typically aren't hallmarked due to their light weight, but we carry out our own due diligence to maintain high standards.
• Silver and gold-plated, and gold vermeil: The core of this jewellery is silver. However, it's covered with a thin layer of gold to give a more luxurious look. Gold vermeil is similar, but more regulated: gold vermeil jewellery must contain 99.9% fine silver or 92.5% sterling silver and be coated in a minimum of 10 carat gold.
• Silver and rose-gold-plated: Similar to the above, this refers to silver with a thin layer of rose gold around the outside. Rose gold is a mixture of yellow gold, silver and copper to make the distinct shade. It's because of this combination that rose-gold-plated jewellery is incredibly durable and doesn't easily tarnish.

FAQs About Silver Earrings
How do I clean silver earrings?
Silver lasts well, but even our most-loved pieces will need a little TLC now and then. Here are some simple ways to keep your silver earrings shining bright:
1. Silver polishing cloth: Simply wipe over and see instant results in the shine and colour.
2. Warm soapy water: Using a mild dish soap, allow the silver earrings to soak and then wipe them down gently.
3. Liquid cleaner: Apply a specialist silver jewellery cleaner using a cloth to remove oxidation or build-up.
•Bonus tip: Keep silica gel pouches in your jewellery box to absorb any extra moisture. This will prevent oxidation and tarnishing.

Can I wear my silver earrings whilst sleeping?
It depends on the style of your earrings. Silver hoop earrings, for example, are great to sleep in. They don't have a back that presses the side of the neck and can rotate freely within the piercing hole. Small silver stud earrings are also suitable for sleeping in; however, it may be worth checking the backs, as you can swap them for more comfortable options.
Are silver earrings good for sensitive skin?
Yes, silver is a great material for those with sensitive skin. Pure silver is entirely hypoallergenic, but it's too soft to be used for jewellery. However, sterling silver is still highly hypoallergenic as it should contain at least 92.5% silver. This is exactly why silver earrings are great for those with easily irritated skin.
Can I wear my silver earrings in the shower?
Showering in your silver earrings won't harm them, but it's best to remove them as a preventative measure. The water can oxidise the silver over time, and shampoo and conditioners may be too harsh for the silver and tarnish it. It's therefore best to remove your silver earrings before showering to ensure their longevity.
